What we store when you play, why, and who helps us run the site.

The one cookie

On your first visit we set a single cookie, bg_uid, holding a random player ID so your games and settings follow you between visits. It is signed, can't be read by scripts on the page, and expires after a year. The site can't work without it, so there's no cookie banner. There are no advertising or tracking cookies.

Your account

If you create an account, we store your email address, your display name, your password as a one-way hash (never the password itself), and a profile picture if you upload one.

Games, chat and friends

We keep your game history — moves, results and ratings — so you can look back at and analyse past games. We also store table chat messages, which moderators can review to deal with abuse, and your friends list.

Voice and video

Calls at the table run through LiveKit. Audio and video pass between players live and are not recorded.

Analytics

To understand how the site is used, we record product events such as sign-ups and games played, and use PostHog (hosted in the EU) to see which pages and buttons people use and which site sent them here. This is linked to your player ID and sets no cookies.

Your data, your call

Email hello@bg-with-friends.eu to get a copy of your data, correct it, or have your account and its data deleted. You can also complain to your local data protection authority.
